festive drink basics:
- apple juice
- hot cocolate
- mulling spices: here's a great recipe!
(i insert apple juice for apple cider, and look for mccormick spices, unless you have another favorite that you've checked out and is safe!
safe, but don't assume that bailey's is in the same category. we cannot be assured at this time whether bailey's is safe of not, so steer clear.
wine it up, you're safe in this category! the only thing we need to be weary of is wine from europe that was aged in barrels once used for grains, or of course anything with an added flavor. wine coolers are not in the same boat, there is often malt used in these which has gluten written allover it!
bacardi 8 and bacardi gold are safe, as of 2012, as is captain morgan spiced rum. bacardi silver is NOT.
smirnoff, made from corn, original vodka is gluten free. beware of flavors and coolers as they contain malt.
pinnacle vodkas were gluten free as of 8/6/12. but made from wheat, distilled 4 times, read here for the controversy on distilled alcohol.
- peppermint schnapps
- whipped cream
peppermint hot chocolate
mix your homemade hot chocolate with an ounce of peppermint schnapps, and top it off with whipped cream!
(kahlua is also a great addition to hot chocolate, or coffee with cream!)
the white Christmas cocktail
this sounds amazing, but beware of the candy cane!

hot apple cider
here is a recipe - or you could combine apple juice and mulling spices for a spiced cider. either way, top it off with some whipped cream and caramel sauce drizzled on top for something scrumptious!
this is serious stuff.
2 cups of ice cream, melted (chapman's is safe)
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup brown sugar
(mix these three ingredients well and re-freeze)
fill each cup with boiling water, add 1 oz of rum per cup, and two tablespoons of ice cream mixture.... oh wow.
here's the recipe for this beauty.
be careful of the cranberry juice you use, sun rype is a good choice or you can look up whichever one you prefer.
brown sugar caramel latte
mmm... looks like dessert!
here it is!
smuckers caramel sauce is a safe bet for on top.
the caroling cup
