so back to things you guys are actually interested in ;) the show was super. being in bc place was a huge plus for me, it had this nice feeling about it where the large number of people became unnoticed because of the open space that surround the floor area. it was easy to take a deep breath, and had much less of a trade show feel and much more a feeling of an exciting event. I look forward to next year! a big thanks to sandra garcia, the publicist for EAT! for hooking us up with press badges for the show. dane sampled with authority with his first-ever press pass!
our ultimate winner, the place where dane said "boy, i'm sure glad we went there last because that was the BEST!"... was kitchening & co. by carly wintschel. ie. french macarons! i have had macarons before, made by a different company, and was left convinced that to really enjoy them must be an acquired taste... not the case! after asking a ton of questions to ensure that they would be safe for us, we indulged - dane chose the chocolate one, and i picked the pistachio, and we both mmm'd through it!! dane was convinced that it was two cookies with ice cream in the middle, and i was convinced that we should have bought more!
so here's the scoop on their gluten-free grade. they do make gluten-containing products in their kitchen from time to time, but never ever on the same day as their macarons and they fully sanitize and scrutinize their kitchen in between. this came straight from the horse's mouth, one of the owners, dan, answered all of my questions and i felt really confident afterwards, he was very in-the-know about gluten free and how to keep us safe. huge thumbs up for these guys! they are always setting up pop-up shops around the city, so 'like' them on facebook, or check them out here and you'll be able to enjoy these decadent treats that were our very top highlight of the show!! (i didn't take this picture, my pictures of the macarons didn't do them justice so i stole this right from the source ;)
